Prairie Problems

Hey there, on this be-a-uuuuuuuuuu-tiful Friday afternoon!

My newest project for my Etsy shop is a vintagey mid-calf length prairie skirt, complete with *adorable* eyelet embellishment along the bottom. Some thing kinda-sorta like this:

Except, I was planning on doing the ruffle sewn on differently, giving the bottom a pretty different look. As the title of this post suggests, however, I've run into a little issue.

Yeah, what do you think of the oh-so-dramatic picture? ha ha :-)

Anyway, in short, the skirt is just not hanging right (at all), and the waist is waaaaaayyyyyyyyy too big (I measured the elastic wrong). Which leads to my newest discovery:

Elastic REALLY bugs me.

It just has this way of turning out completely doofy looking.......

But, this skirt hasn't gotten the better of me yet! Because of the fact that an elastic waist gives this type of material a really bunchy look....

NOT this bunchie

THIS bunchy.

....I've decided to revamp the style and go for more of a circle skirt look, with a normal zipper waistband, adding some prairie skirt elements to it! More like this...

....meets Little House on the Prairie...

We will see! Once I get all the details fine tuned and everything looking like the idea I have for it in my head (it's the application that's the key), I'll give you another update.

In the mean time, thanks for listening to my prairie skirt woes.

Have a fabulous day, everyone!

  1. I think your prairie skirt ideas are terrific! They are so cool and comfortable for the summer months while being stylish and modest all at the same time. I hope your sewing goes smoothly. May the LORD bless the work of your hands.
