Victory Rolls that is!
I was searching around yesterday for some vintagey hair inspiration, and found an absolutely awesome tutorial on creating that iconic hair style of the 1940s.
Now, if you could have been here at my house for the past couple months, you would have seen just how much I have been focusing on that era. In the midst of one of the darkest times in not only America's but the world's history, men and women stood out - stood for God; stood for their countries; stood for freedom - and were lights shining through. Just a few of the aspects of the 1940s that shine brightest in my mind are....
The patriotism.

The complete courage and faith of the men on the warfront...

and the determination, fortitude, and faith of those on the homefront.

It truly was a generation of honor. Of real men, standing up and fighting for their nation, for their families. Of women, standing up on the home front and doing everything they can to support their men fighting. Having been born forty-eight years after it all ended, it could be easy to look back on it and not truly appreciate the people of just two generations before; however, one of the reasons I love and study History so much is because I do not want that to be the case. My desire is to truly KNOW history, to apply it's principles to today, and to respect those who lives were for good. Not only that, but gain an even deeper respect for those taking a stand right now! I am so thankful for each of the service men and women - from the military and police force, to doctors, teachers (both in the schools and in the home), and so many more - who stand for their country and the people of it. Thank you!!
Now, it is quite difficult (at least it is for me!) to research any era without noticing the fashion. The whole decade of the 40s was filled with amazing styles, all reflecting the time, economy, and political climate. In particular, it is a great showcase of American creativity - due to the war stopping things coming in from Europe in the early 40s - including Paris fashions - American designers were able to spread their wings and fly. However, because of war rations, fabric and clothing were not so much the highlight as to how women wore them...in other words hair, makeup, and accessories!
In the future, I will be posting some tips, tutorials, and videos that I find or make on how to apply those fashion tricks to us gals in the here and now. First up, a video tutorial from the blog Diary of a Vintage Girl on how to create victory rolls!
Happy Tuesday!
